A plain-language guide to understanding care

Look at the whole bill

What does the price actually include?

Before comparing totals, ask for a written list of what is included. A quoted price for medicine may cover something different from a quoted price for the care plan.

Use the advertised price as a starting question

On September 26, 2026, a government website listing cash-price offers showed semaglutide (Wegovy) tablets from $149 a month. The website lists offers; it does not sell the medicine.

That was the starting price for tablets with the smallest amount of medicine in each one. It was not a price for every strength or for a full care plan.

  • Which exact medicine and form does the quote cover?
  • What is charged for the amount actually prescribed?
  • Does the quote include the clinical visit?
  • What will I pay when any opening offer ends?

Ask what happens after the opening offer

As of September 26, 2026, eligible new patients paying outside insurance could get semaglutide (Ozempic) pens from $199 a month. That price was for the first two months of medicine, at the starting strengths only.

Once the first two months ended, the prescribed amount determined whether the monthly price was $349 or $499. The opening offer’s end date was December 31, 2026.

Paying for care without using insurance is called self-pay. Those offer terms did not allow the expense to count towards the deductible, a plan’s set amount of costs that you pay yourself.

  • Ask for the continuing price as well as the opening price.
  • Ask when the printed terms stop promising that price.
  • Ask whether the quote depends on paying ahead or remaining enrolled.

Bring all the charges together on one page

In a sample taken in September 2026, online weight-care services often billed membership separately from medicine.

The sample describes advertised fees, not a promise about every service.

Use these headings to compare the full quote.
  • Request the full bill in writing before agreeing.
  • Ask about cancellation, refunds and charges while a prescription is being reviewed.
  • Ask who can answer a billing question if the care plan changes.
